Fili 周 Gibbons ( we/they/them ) are a interdisciplinary artist, musician and recording engineer of mixed Chinese and Canadian ancestry currently based in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal. Their work draws on music performance, audio, digital arts, body practice, and ancestral knowledge systems, combining these to create sensorial tapestries of memory and embodiment.
As a performance-maker, they have created original pieces for PHI Centre, Sight+Sound Festival, OBORO, International Institute for Critical Studies of Improvisation. As a technical consultant and multimedia creator, they frequently collaborate with other artists in audio production (Yaya Diallo, Géraldine Eguiluz, Michael Kim-Sheng, Rajni Shah), cello recording (Devon Bate, Jeremy Dutcher), and sound design for 3D / VR experiences (World Creation Studio, Marie LeBlanc Flanagan).
Starting the company Studio Apothicaire in 2018, they continue to explore a human-centred sound and video production practice through recordings, artist accompaniment, and community workshops.
